Veteran Day
To Van J. Simmons, Jr.
To those of you who remember him, I wish you could have gotten to
know him better. He was the toughest guy I ever knew.
There was a time this club was headed by a hero,
and nobody even knew
it, till now.
Here is a song that Van wrote for his fallen brothers at Vietnam:
The sun has gone down
On the great yellow sea,
And the glow of the moon's silver light
Shines down on a scene of what should not be,
A victory of wrong over right.
No shroud for their bodies,
No flag for their grave,
No victory wreath for their breast.
Oh, Lord up in glory, have mercy on these,
And a place in the land of the blest.
He never forgot his brothers. Let's not forget ours. Let's not forget
him.
